“Insufficient hands-on materials and resources have placed artificial barriers on blind youth who want to learn.”
“I am so frustrated by having to wait for months to get my study material. Half my exam tension is not whether I would complete the syllabus, but whether I will get the study material on time!”
These are common statements made by blind students across the world. In fact blind students, parents and organisations working with the blind put in a lot of effort just to arrange for study material. A good education is a fundamental foundation to life in today’s society. But for the estimated 10 million blind and partially sighted children in the world, making the most of their education can be a real struggle due to a lack of adequate study materials.
But things are now set to change; the dream of studying last minute will soon be reality for blind students worldwide! They might have an opportunity to get all the notes for the next academic year in their hands right now.
You must be wondering how…Here’s how…
Eight blind students Surendra, Abdul, David, Moiz, Prateek, Austin, Robert and Tomi, from different parts of the world have kick started the Accessible Class Notes Project. Through the Accessible Class Notes Project , Inclusive Planet has created a collaborative environment that allows students to share their lecture notes, exam information, reports, articles, essays or any other helpful material.
If every blind student shares his or her existing collection of study material we can create access to a large pool of material for students who would just be entering those courses. For example, Moiz has shared his final year notes from law school and going forward any law student in India will have access to his notes right at the beginning of the year. Similarly David has started sharing his Braille music notes, so anyone learning music across the world will have something to start with.
In the coming weeks, we hope to see many more students, teachers, schools, and parents join us in our quest to break barriers to accessing relevant study material for blind students across the world.
How can you be a part of this?
Start subscribing and sharing your study material on the existing class notes channels. Also feel free to open your own channel which is relevant for you and your friends.
Let’s come together, and make lack of study material a thing of the past!
Let’s create a planet without barriers!
